2006 Peregrine Ridge American Oak Blend - Shiraz

A small portion of the crop was held aside and aged in American oak - often the preferred partner for shiraz in Australia, adding spice and vanilla to often very ripe fruit flavours.

The more elegant fruit profile of central Heathcote shiraz presents a different picture for the framing of American oak and it's fascinating comparing this with its French oak sibling. Vanilla and cocoa lift the red/blue fruit characters of middle Heathcote - attractive and bolder than the French model, while the palate shows an edge of broader tannins and more obvious oak flavours.

All this certainly adds a splash of immediate appeal, although it will age well while always keeping that extra element of oak spice.

“Fabulously rich colour and amazing fruit vibrancy.  Beautifully balanced palate has excellent sweetness and well-focused fruit cake and chocolate flavours.”
