Peregrine Ridge Wins Trophy for Best Sparkling Red at the Australian Sparkling Wine Show

Peregrine Ridge won the trophy for the Best Sparkling Red for its 2005 Winemaker's Reserve Sparkling Shiraz Late Disgorge at the Australian Sparkling Wine Show.

According to John Ellis and the judges, this makes it the best Sparkling Red in Australia for 2011/12.  The wine was a clear winner with all 7 judges awarding Gold and the wine finishing well ahead on points.  The judges were all sparkling wine experts and included:

  • John Ellis (Head judge – Hanging Rock)
  • Ian McKenzie (Seppelts chief sparkling wine maker for many years)
  • Tony Jordan (Chandon chief winemaker for years)
  • Ed Carr (Hardys/Arras – no introductions required)

John Ellis said that the judges were looking for great wines and they found them.  They could tell that the Peregrine Ridge wine was made to always be that way, and it was a real stand out that was a treat to judge.  The class was very strong and full of names that would be instantly recognisable as classy sparkling red wines.  John also said that you would not see a stronger group of sparkling wines (both reds and whites across the the 5 classes) anywhere in Australia, and possibly the world, making the show a real treat to participate in.

So, according to the top judges, Heathcote is the home of Australia’s best Sparkling Shiraz!!
